On June 4, 2024, I installed this memorial and commemoration to the 35th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square massacre on June 4th 1989 in Beijing. On that day, the Chinese government and military killed approximately 1000 people during demonstrations for free speech and democracy. To this day - the Chinese government continues to hunt down and eliminate all references to #june41989 - both online and in the real world public discourse. Don’t let this inhuman injustice go down the memory hole.

Michael Griffith
December 20, 1986
He was killed in a racially motivated attack on December 20, 1986. Griffith and his friends stopped at New Park Pizza in Howard Beach, Queens after their car broke down. They were confronted by a group of youths at the pizza parlor. They were beaten and chased. Griffith fled onto nearby highway where he was struck and killed by a car.
