He was the great host of the “Wide Open Cabaret” poetry and performance show at ABC NO RIO in the late 80s - 90s on Rivington St.
As MC and organizer, he was a wonderful showman and was very funny. Matthew and the performers conjured a great atmosphere of words, emotions and ideas. After each show - I was so dazed and enthused, I wanted to run through a wall - and make something.
For the past many years, he created and displayed his paintings and poetry on a sidewalk on Prince St. An artist in action for all to see.

Dr. Li Wenliang, who worked at the Central Hospital of Wuhan China as a ophthalmologist, warned his colleagues about early COVID-19 infections in Wuhan China on Chinese social media platforms in December 2019. Wuhan police summoned him for "making false comments on the Internet about unconfirmed SARS outbreak.” He contracted Covid-19 in January 2022 and stoically documented his illness in online posts which were published worldwide. He died of COVID-19 on February 7, 2020.
